Here at Shift HQ, we have varying opinions on this highly controversial (read: not controversial) topic: Light Theme versus Dark Theme for our interface.
Now, it’s your turn to be the judge.
To try out our beautiful new look, simply download Shift, head into Settings > General > Appearance and toggle over to Light Theme.
But since you’re here, I thought I’d share a few of our own team’s thoughts on the ‘issue.’
Michael, our Director of Product, takes a diplomatic, yet Star Wars shrouded viewpoint on the matter. Choose your mood, then choose your Shift theme!
“My feeling is that Shift should reflect your personal approach to the day’s work ahead; are you in a Darth Vader frame of mind? Go for Dark Theme. Then tell people, “I am altering the deal. Pray I don’t alter it any further.”
…Or are you more of a Luke Skywalker? Light theme might be more your style. Think: “I’m Luke Skywalker and I’m here to rescue you!”
Shift Developer, Mark, gets straight to the point.
“Stay on the dark side. We have cookies.”
And then there’s Stew, our Director of Technology, who is arguably one of the biggest fans of Light Theme:
“There is no controversy. To call it a controversy is to suggest that there are two legitimate choices here. In my personal view, there was a critical bug in all previous versions of Shift (aka. the Dark Theme).
I would strongly encourage you to enable the Light Theme and fix this horrendous ‘bug’ once and for all ?”
Maria, our Quality Assurance specialist, takes it to a much deeper level:
“We honor the complex needs of our customers. The new Shift Light theme reflects that by offering them freedom of choice. We are honoring the Yin and Yang philosophy and making Shift the best and most beautiful desktop app for Gmail yet.”
My thoughts?
Be yourself, keep it light, and Shift will fall into place ?
