When it comes to social media, changes are inevitable. We don’t know when exactly they update things, such as the image sizes, but one thing we know for sure is that it will happen one way or another – we just have to deal with it! Pfft!!!
To help you with this, we decided to compile all the latest image sizes of the most popular social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube. YES! You don’t need to look anywhere else, everything’s here at your disposal.
Why is it important to get the right sizes for your images before uploading them to social media you ask? Well, here are 3 important reasons for that (blog.hootsuite.com):
- It ensures that your images look professionally taken and not pixelated at all.
- It can help increase your engagement because your images will be optimised for each social platform that you post it to.
- It ensures that your potential customers or anyone else on the platform will see the full image and not just half of it.
Now that you know all these information, it’s time to unveil the latest image sizes for your social media posts on different platforms.
Instagram Profile Photo Size
If you want to have the best profile picture on Instagram, make sure that your photo is stored at 320 x 320 pixels, or least that big. Otherwise, you’re face will look bigger than usual or smaller – which I assume you don’t want to happen. It’s a nightmare!!!
Also, Instagram profile photos are displayed as circle, so see to it that your face or your company logo is in the centre if you want it to be the focus.

Instagram Story Size: 1080 x 1920 pixels
IGTV Cover Image: 420 x 654 pixels
Feed Image Sizes:
Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels
Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels
Square (Recommended): 1080 x 1080 pixels
Just a heads up! Even though you can now upload landscape or portrait images, Instagram will still show it as square on your feed. It’s best that you use the recommended size which is the square one.
Facebook Profile Photo Size
Like Instagram, profile photos of Facebook are also displayed as circle. Again, make sure that your face or any elements that you want to be the focus should be in the centre. Otherwise, your audience will see a half-face, or no chin, and no forehead.
Recommended image size is 170 x 170 pixels on desktop and 128 x 128 pixels on mobile.
Facebook Cover Photo Size
It should be 820 x 312 pixels. To make sure that the most important part of your image is seen completely on mobile (i.e your face or your offer), it should rest around 640 x 360 pixels.

- 940 x 788 pixels

Twitter Profile Picture Size: 400 x 400 pixels
Twitter Cover Photo Size: 1500 x 500 pixels
Twitter Post Size: 1024 x 512 pixels
When sharing more than one image on twitter, their aspect ratio will change too. See list below:
- Two images; side by side – both at 7:8
- Three images; one on the left at 7:8, two on the stacked on the right at 4:7 each.
- Four images; all have 2:1 aspect ratio as a grid.
Twitter Ad Size
- Single and Multi-Image Ads: 600 x 335 pixels or larger with the same ratio
- Twitter Cards: 800 x 418 pixels for 1.91:1 aspect ratio or 800 x 800 for 1:1 aspect ratio
- Carousels: Same as Twitter Cards but with 2-6 images
LinkedIn Profile Picture Size: 300 x 300 pixels
Profile Background Image: 1128 x 376 pixels
Page Cover Photo: 1128 x 191 pixels
LinkedIn Post Size: 1200 x 1200 pixels
LinkedIn Ad Size: 1200 x 628 pixels
Pinterest Profile Picture Size: 165 x 165 pixels
Pinterest Board Cover Size: 600 x 600 pixels
Pinterest Pin Size: 1000 x 1500 pixels
YouTube Profile Picture Size: 800 x 800 pixels
YouTube Thumbnail Size: 1280 x 720 pixels
YouTube Channel Art Size: 2560 x 1440 (Recommended), minimum size is 2048 x 1152 pixels.
Ideally, you need to have a 2560 x 1440 pixels channel art graphic, but it will show up differently on other devices. For computers, you can only see the centre part – 2560 x 423 pixels. Smartphones, on the other hand, will only show 1546 x 423 pixels. So before you upload your channel art, make sure that the most important information should be within the centre – 1546 x 423 pixels.
